After I logged off earlier this morning, we hopped in the rental car and head over the mountains from Sonoma County to Napa Valley. The roads were winding and sometimes steep, tree lined with breathtaking views. I am always amazed when I come to California, especially because it is SO different than home.
The trip across the mountain was beautiful and quick. Soon we were at the gates of the Castello di Amarosa winery.
Hubby's co-worker had told him about this winery so it was top of our list of things to do this weekend. We were amazed as we drove up the steep and winding driveway to see a beautiful castle at the top of the hill. All around the brick and stone building were lush vines full of purple grapes ~ Merlot, Zinfindel... delicious (we snuck a couple of grapes to taste... but don't worry, we were told we could when we booked our tour!).
Even the boys got in on the fun...
The tour of the castle was amazing and informative.
Our tour guide Joe was a Philly native whose interesting style made the tour interesting and enjoyable, although to be honest, sometimes it was a little cringe-worthy too with his off-beat sense of humor. One of our favorite places on the tour was the Dungeon and torture chamber.
At the end of the tour we ended up in a tasting area where Joe poured us various whites, reds and dessert wines to sample. We ended up picking up a nice cheese/dessert wine.
Mmm... Wine!
On our way back to San Francisco, we stopped at the deli at the V. Sattui Winery (owned by the same people as the Castello di Amarosa) to pick up some bread, cheese and meats to go with our new wine for our dinner. When we checked into our hotel back in the Silicon Valley (where Hubby will be working this week) we laid out our goodies and made a picnic on our bed, while watching the red carpet for the Emmy's.
The weather was beautiful today.. much cooler than home but lovely all the same. As we drove back over the Bay Bridge back into the city, we were amazed at the fog rolling in through the Bay from the Ocean. Check out Alcatraz (if you can see it through the fog...). They weren't kidding when they talked about how temperate San Francisco is in summer! That fog is crazy!

Tomorrow while Hubby is off doing his audit at his clients', I am still unsure of what to do. Should I head downtown and explore? Will I decide to lounge around this area? Only time will tell... but you know I'll tell you all about it tomorrow most likely!
