In the next chapter of our California Adventure, Hubby and I head off for a fun filled morning at Warner Brothers Studios for the back lot tour.
Me at the entrance of the VIP Tour at WB Studios
On this tour we were able to see some of the back lot sets of favorite shows like ER, Friends and Gilmore Girls.
Remember in the Friends episode where Phoebe is running in Central Park? Check out the WB version of the New York park...
WB version of Central Park ~ just a tad smaller huh?
Being a HUGE Gilmore Girls fan, I was particularly excited to visit "Stars Hollow". Unfortunately, the Gazebo was dismantled for current filming of a tv show, but I was able to see a few other Stars Hollow buildings, like Miss Pattie's dance studio...
Miss Pattie's Dance Studio
We drove by Luke's Diner...
Need a cuppa Joe at Luke's?
We were able to dismount from the tour tram in the neighborhood section of the backlot where we entered into this home...
Sookie and Jackson's House
I couldn't get over the fact that the set used for the house of Sookie and Jackson was the same house as Lorelai and Rory, only you enter through the backyard for their house front. Wanna see?
Me in front of Lorelai and Rory's house
Next door to Lorelai and Rory's house, just like in the show, is Babette's house...
Babette's House Next Door to Lorelai's
Also on the back lot neighborhood was the home used in the opening of Growing Pains. Remember when the Seaver's would take a photo out in front of their home each season? Here is where they were...
The Seaver's House from Growing Pains
Along the tour route, our guide led us into the Prop house where we were able to see the Friend's set, reassembled here from it's former sound stage. Check it out...
The famous couch from Central Perk

Front doors of Central Perk
What should we order??
A couple other cool things we saw in the Prop House was the crowns used in Sandra Bullock's movie, Miss Congeniality (my picture turned out a little blurry unfortunately) and the "Ark of the Covenant" from the first Indiana Jones movie:
Ark of the Covenant
Another cool thing from this tour was we got to stand on the set of the Ellen talk show (not yet taping for the new season) and on the sets of the NBC show "Chuck". We were able to stand in the stock room of Chuck's fictional electronics store as well as in the courtyard of his apartment complex. Our tour guide even let us sneak a peek inside Chuck's apartment. It was very cool and now I want to check out that show on t.v.
On our way back to the hotel after this tour we decided to drive back up Mulholland Drive to check out some of the things we'd seen the day before on our tour when the driver was flying by these sites.
One of the most unique homes in the Hollywood Hills is for certain this house...
This space ship home was the house Drew Barrymore was hanging from in the first Charlie's Angels movie. Apparently, the only way up to the house is either a 100 step stairway or a gondola ride up from the garage. Crazy huh?!
From the top of Mulholland, in one of the many vista points, you can see this spectacular view of Universal City. Our hotel was the tall black building on the right.
Universal City
We stopped at one place our tour guide had told us was the infamous "Dead Man's Curve" (which I read in my Tour Book is not the actual one referred to in the Jan and Dean song) and a kind group of fellow sightseer's offered to take this shot for us:
Top of Dead Man's Curve (or so they say)
Behind us in that picture is a gated community called "The Summit" where celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Van Halen and the late Ed MacMahon live or lived. Here's a close up of I think Gwen Stefani and her neighbor's homes:
Just a small place in the Summit (ha ha)
Later that afternoon, Hubby and I head over to the CBS Studios in Studio City for a taping of the new ABC Family sitcom "Melissa and Joey". This was the highlight of our time in the LA area. It was so fun to be in the studio audience, watching a t.v. show being taped and all that entailed. The comedian that hypes up the audience was hilarious and we had so much fun that some times the actors had to wait for us to stop having fun so they could keep working. Joey Lawrence was adorable as he often would entertain the audience during a shooting break by breaking into dance, once even to his hit song. The whole experience was so much fun and the four hours it took to tape the 22 minute Halloween episode felt like minutes. If we ever come back to Hollywood again, we definitely want to get tickets to watch a sitcom taping!
Stay tuned for our next adventure in Hollywood... Universal Studios!
